Clinical training is performed at 54 units of the Ministry of Health of the Republic Tatarstan.

There are 33 general hospitals, outpatients departments, 21 polyclinics, maternity hospitals, dental polyclinics, etc. The total number of beds is around 9000. There are approximately 4500 therapeutic, 2120 — pediatric, 1500 — surgical and 440 — gynecological beds. The main hub of clinical training is the Republican Clinical Hospital. Other centers for clinical training include, Hospital of emergency care, City hospital No. 18 and Interregional Clinical Diagnostic Center.

KSMU dental polyclinic has 98 dental chairs. Republican and 8 city centers of public healthcare with the specialized departments and laboratories are used for teaching and training the students of prophylactic medicine faculty. Pharmaceutical faculty uses for training its students 65 pharmacies with the laboratories in Republic Tatarstan, 18 pharmacies in Chuvashia and some commercial pharmaceutical units.

The Center for Practical Skills - is the newest department of the Kazan State Medical University, founded in 2002. The Center for Practical Skills conducts pre-clinical training of students and organizes training for residents and interns of KSMU.The center is headed by Professor Sergey Bulatov (photo on left).

The Center is equipped with simulators, manikins and training devices especially designed for qualitative mastering of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

The «Standardized Patient» method is widely used to train senior students, where the role of patient is played by a specially trained actor. Beginning in the first year of medical school, these standardized patients teach students to perform a complete physical examination, take a medical history and effectively communicate with an extensive and diverse population. For young professionals participating in the programs of postgraduate education special seminars are conducted based on modern high-technological teaching methods: «Providing emergency medical assistance in an emergent situation» and «Endoscopic methods of examination and treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract».

This educational program received an inventor’s certificate and a patent of the Russian Federation on «A method of professional training of students» in 2007.

The Center for Practical Skills in collaboration with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and University of Vermont College of Medicine conducts training for medical students, interns and residents according to the healthcare standards required for Clinical Skills in USMLE. Annual exams are held and upon successful completion, candidates are awarded with certificates, signed by the Rectors of American medical school and Kazan State Medical University.

Foreign citizens and people without citizenship have the right to get a higher education within the budget in accordance with international treaties and federal laws of the Russian Federation or the quota established by the Government of the Russian Federation for the education of foreign citizens and people without citizenship, as well as at the expense of individuals and legal entities in accordance with the agreements on the provision of paid educational services.

Preparatory pre-university department for international students

Training on subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Russian language, 10 months’ study period

The beginning of training – 1st of October 2023.

After the graduation from the preparatory pre-university department international students are issued a standard certificate. BUT such students are not exempt from entrance exams on admission to KSMU.

Students of the preparatory pre-university department are NOT provided with a dormitory.

Examinations: 

There are examinations at the end of both semesters. The dates of examinations (Session Period) are determined by the Rector, but the examination dates for individual disciplines within the session period are decided by students and faculty members by mutual agreement.

Student’s performance during the examinations is graded as: «Unsatisfactory», «Satisfactory», «Good», «Excellent».

In order to appear for the exam, a student must have passed all the Credit-Tests and must have fulfilled the 100 % attendance.

Vacations: all students have their vacations twice a year:

• summer vacations: from July 1 to August 31
• winter vacations: from January 15 to February 7

FACULTY OF SOCIAL WORK -  Motto: HUMANITY—PROFESSIONALISM—RESPONSIBILITY!

The Faculty was created in 1991 with the aim of training, retraining and further advanced training of social work specialists.

Duration of study is 5 years .

Students gain extensive knowledge in the fields of social sciences, psychology and pedagogy, law and economics, theory and technology of social work.

Contracts have been signed for cooperation and training of specialists with the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Tatarstan, with the Administration of the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tatarstan and with other social ministries and departments, with the Department of Public Service supervised by the President of the Republic Tatarstan, the international relations are actively strengthening.

The Faculty is involved in the project «Modernizing Russian Social Work Education and Teaching» of TEMPUS.

FACULTY OF HIGHER NURSING STUDIES

The faculty was organized in 1994. The establishment of the Faculty was determined by a high demand for qualified managers of nursing services, and today graduates of the Faculty chair the nursing services of multi-profile hospitals in the Republic of Tatarstan and neighboring regions.

The year 1869 can be considered as the date of establishment of this Faculty, when Professor A.I. Jacobi organized Russia’s first department of Social Hygiene at the Medical Faculty of Kazan Imperial University. In 1930, together with the reorganization of the Medical Faculty into an Institute, the Faculty of Preventive Medicine was established.

The Faculty of Preventive Medicine trains doctors, the scope of activities of whom includes the assessment of human health and the environment and the implementation of preventive measures.

Duration of study: 6 years.

Upon completion, faculty graduates receive the qualification of a “Medical Doctor”, specialty in “Preventive Medicine”.

FACULTY OF MEDICAL BIOCHEMISTRY

 The Faculty was created in 2011 with the aim of training of doctors highly qualified in medicinal chemistry and laboratory work.

Duration of study is 6 years.
