The group of scientists from the Kazan State Medical University has developed a drug that relieves the effects of stroke.
The developed drug is aimed at maintaining the viability of cells located in the "penumbra" zone – a part of the brain where cells can either recover or succumb to a pathological process.
The drug is an injection that can be administered to people who are in intensive care in a pre-stroke state.
Thanks to the development of the lesion in the brain does not increase in size, fewer neurons die. So, the neurons remain in a "protected" state for three weeks after the drug is administered.
